In December the valley turns white: the chinars stand bare over the Mughal gardens, mist sits on the Dal at dawn, and the Gondola rises over the fresh snowfields of Apharwat. Evenings are for the bukhari, a kangri in the lap and saffron kehwa. This private journey is paced for the season: the lakes and old city of Srinagar, snow play and the Gondola at Gulmarg, the stone temples of the early kings on the drive south, and the pine valleys of the Lidder at Pahalgam — with heated rooms throughout.

THE JOURNEY AT A GLANCE

• Day 01 – Arrival: Welcome at the airport; Nishat and Shalimar under bare chinars · Shikara on the Dal in the low winter light.
• Day 02 – Srinagar: Shankaracharya hill · the old city and Mughal Garden · Hazratbal · a kangri and kehwa by the bukhari · Pari Mahal at dusk.
• Day 03 – Gulmarg: Gondola Phase I & II to Apharwat, close to 4,000 m · snow play, sledges and the meadow in white · a night in the mountains.
• Day 04 – To Pahalgam: Pampore and Awantipora on the drive south · Mamleshwar temple · the Lidder at evening.
• Day 05 – Pahalgam: Aru, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari by union taxi · the pine forests of the Lidder in snow.
• Day 06 – Depart: Drive to Srinagar airport (book a departure flight after 2:30 PM).

GOOD TO KNOW

• Snow: Gulmarg is usually under snow by mid-December; Srinagar’s first snowfall often comes in the last week. Pack layers, a warm coat and good shoes; room heating is included at every stay.
• Gondola: Phase II to Apharwat runs subject to weather and wind; on a closed day we rebuild the Gulmarg day around snow play, sledges and the meadow.
• Chandanwari: Included and depends on snow and road conditions; Aru and Betaab are the alternative.
• Peak dates: Prices are valid for travel 1–15 December 2026; Christmas and New Year dates carry hotel supplements and are quoted on request.
• Paid direct: Monument, garden and valley entry fees; lunches and dinners; airfare.
